The Royal Thai Air Force has received a Saab 340 Erieye AEW (airborne early warning) and a Saab 340 for transport and training aircraft from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).

FMV has delivered the orders under a Skr2bn ($295.47m) contract signed between the Swedish Government and Thailand in 2008 for a complete air defence system.

The order includes six Gripen aircraft (four Jas 39D and two Jas 39C) with associated equipment and services, a Saab 340 aircraft with airborne radar surveillance system, a Saab 340 for transport and education and an integrated command and control system with data links.

In addition, the agreement contains extensive logistical support, training for Thai pilots and technicians, and simulators.

Deliveries of the remaining system components will occur during the first quarter of 2011.

FMV and Thailand have also signed a Skr2.2bn ($325.02m) deal for six additional Gripen C fighters with maintenance and support system equipment.
