Raytheon has received a contract to upgrade the centre display unit (CDU) of the US Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard F-16 fighter aircraft.

The CDU will replace multiple analogue flight instrument displays currently used in the F-16 cockpit with a single large-LCD colour display.

Equipped with advanced technology, the CDU will enable pilots to overlay data from onboard and remote sensors on a digital moving map, video processing, and two-way data-link situational awareness messaging.

Raytheon Technical Services Company (RTSC) will perform engineering and low-rate initial production on the system at its site in Indianapolis, US, under the $3.1m initial contract.

The contract includes options for production of up to 120 systems a year for five years.
