A Spanish Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft has crashed at a military base in south-western Spain, during a routine training flight, killing the onboard pilot.
The Spanish Defence Ministry stated that the aircraft, assigned to the 11th Wing Air Base Moron de la Frontera, went down while landing at the runway of the Moron Air Base in Seville, Spain.

The reason for the crash is still unknown, the ministry added, noting that the pilot, captain Fernando Lluna Carrascosa, had logged more than 600 flight hours in the Typhoon.
The crash represents the third accident involving a Eurofighter in Spain in less than a decade, following the death of a Saudi pilot in a Typhoon crash at the same airbase in 2010, and an accident with a Typhoon prototype without any casualties at another base, according to local media reports.
Spain shares Moron Air Base with the US Air Force (USAF), which, cannot operate the fighter from the site.
Manufactured by a consortium of EADS, Alenia Aeronautica and BAE Systems, Typhoon is a twin-engine, canard-delta wing, multirole aircraft designed for deployment during air operations, including air policing, peace support and high-intensity conflict missions worldwide.

By GlobalDataThe aircraft, which was introduced in 2013, has to date been ordered by the air forces of Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UK.
Airbus Defence and Space defence division head Bernhard Gerwert was earlier quoted by Agence France Presses as saying that the consortium is planning to halt Typhoon production in 2018 if it fails to secure new export contracts.
The consortium is in talks to sell Typhoon jets outside of Europe, to Kuwait and Malaysia, Gerwert noted.
