The US military and global C-130J fleets are powered by the Rolls Royce AE 2100 turboprop engine.

Rolls-Royce Customer Business senior vice-president Tom Hartmann said: "Rolls-Royce AE 2100 engines provide the dependable, efficient power required by the US Air Force and our allies to complete their transport missions with the C-130J fleet.

"We also successfully manage propulsion support for the Air Force to keep its C-130J fleet operating at peak efficiency, while continuing to focus on affordability for our customers."

A turboprop derivative of the AE 1107C engine, AE 2100 is a two-shaft gas turbine with a 14-stage high-pressure (HP) compressor driven by a two-stage HP turbine. It is designed to power military transports, long-range maritime patrol aircraft and new generation high-speed regional aircraft.

The engine has been developed in two variants, namely AE2100A and AE 2100D3, which is coupled to a new-technology six-bladed Dowty propeller for use on the C-130J transport.

To date, Rolls Royce has delivered nearly 6,000 engines, which have successfully completed more than 61 million flight hours across the military and commercial fleets.

Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, the C-130J Super Hercules is designed to conduct airborne assault, search-and-rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance and aerial refuelling. Maritime patrol and aerial firefighting missions are also carried out by the aircraft.

More than 300 aircraft have been delivered or are on order across 16 different mission types to customers in 15 countries worldwide.
