The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has awarded a contract to Leidos for the provision of research and development (R&D) and testing services for the Threat Warning and Countermeasures (TWCM) programme for the AFRL Sensors Directorate.
The six-year indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract is valued at approximately $49m. Work will be carried out at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, US.

Leidos Group president John Fratamico said: "Our adversaries continue to employ increasingly advanced electro-optical and infrared threats, including several different types of missiles and lasers.
"Our systems need to provide critical situational awareness about threats to aircrews and counter them effectively so the team can safely accomplish their missions.
As part of the contract, Leidos will perform R&D and test infrared countermeasure response. It will also deliver integrated threat warning, such as hostile fire indication and missile and laser warnings.
The AFRL Sensors Directorate aims to deliver enhanced reconnaissance, surveillance, precision engagement, and electronic warfare potential for the US Air and Space Forces by building, demonstrating and transitioning advanced sensors and sensor technologies.
