MacAulay-Brown (MacB) has been awarded a contract to provide electronic warfare services support to the US Air Force.

As part of the $47m advanced novel spectrum warfare environment research (ANSWER) contract, the company will investigate, analyse and develop fully adaptable and proactive EW solutions to counter rapidly evolving challenges.

MacB Advanced Technology Group senior vice-president and general manager Tim Lawrence said: "Spectrum dominance is critical to winning on the modern battlefield.

The company will collaborate with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to work on traditional and irregular spectrum warfare, with an emphasis on incorporating cyberspace operations for effective countermeasure and protection missions.

MacB is one of seven prime contractors for ANSWER, which aims to research, design, test and transition resilient, adaptive spectrum warfare technologies and techniques in contested and denied environments, consistent with anti-access area denial scenarios.

The programme includes radio frequency spectrum warfare, trusted cyber-resilient avionics systems engineering, position navigation and timing in contested / denied environments, as well as electro-optics countermeasures.

Work under the multiple-award, indefinite-delivery / indefinite-quantity contract is scheduled to be carried out over the next five years.

Other ANSWER contract awardees include BerrieHill Research Corporation, Riverside Research, Leidos, Northrop Grumman Systems, Georgia Tech Research Institute and Dynetics.
