Pakistan has successfully tested its first domestic all-weather armed drone ‘Burraq’ armed with a laser guided missile ‘Barq’.

The unmanned aircraft comes equipped with laser-guided missiles and will be deployed against terrorists along the country’s northwestern border with Afghanistan.

Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has witnessed the test fire of the new missile on static and moving targets, which showed ‘impressive pinpoint accuracy’.

Despite several requests for the US to supply the Pakistani Military with armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the US Government has consistently denied the appeals, according to sputniknews.com.

In November 2013, the Pakistan Military had indigenously developed surveillance-capable drones and the two UAVs are ‘Burraq’ and ‘Shahpar’.

Pakistan already has several types of unarmed surveillance drones in operation, but Burraq and Shahpar were the first developed locally surveillance drones.

These drones were developed in cooperation with the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) in a civilian controlled Pakistani scientific research organisation.
