The latest version of Lockheed’s Fighting Falcon, the F-16V features advanced fourth generation capabilities, including scalable agile beam radar (SABR).

In addition, the aircraft offers enhanced mission computer, vehicle systems, aircraft structure, cockpit and electronic warfare system.

According to Lockheed, the variants will be the predominant configuration for the F-16 worldwide fleet and the new avionics configuration represents the most significant F-16 upgrade so far.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon was designed initially as an air superiority day fighter, which later evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft for accurate delivery of ordnance during non-visual bombing conditions.

The aircraft is said to be the world’s most common fighter with more than 2,000 in service and 2,000 operational with 25 other countries.

In August, Eurofighter representatives delivered a formal letter of support to Indonesia in conjunction with the procurement of the Eurofighter aircraft and associated technologies.

In July, the Indonesian Air Force (IAF) chief of staff air marshal Agus Supriatna had said that the force is planning to replace its existing Hercules aircraft with new transport aircraft.

Eurofighter Typhoon, built by a consortium of Finmeccanica, Airbus Group and BAE Systems, is a delta-wing, beyond visual range (BVR), close air fighter aircraft with surface attack capability.
