Russian aircraft manufacturer Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association has reportedly secured a contract from the Algerian Air Force (AAF) to support its ongoing force modernisation programme.

Under the terms of the deal, Sukho will supply 12 Sukhoi Su-34 fighter bombers to replace the Russian-built legacy MiG-25s of the North African country, reported DefenseNews.

The contract forms a part of the $7.5bn arms deal signed between the countries for the supply of defence equipment and technologies.

Powered by a twin Lyulka AL-31FM1 turbofan engine, the Su-34 aircraft has an increased flight range of up to 4,000km, a maximum speed of up to 1,900km/h and an 8t payload.

In addition, it features a long-range aiming system, a modern on-board communication, an information exchange system and a complex survival system.

It also has an armoured cockpit and an active safety system, in addition to the new computers to manoeuvre and perform accurate bombing when under enemy attack.
