The engine's gearbox has two stages of gear reduction, features a propeller brake and is connected to the power section by a torque meter assembly.

In addition, the engine features can-annular type combustor and the accessory drive housing.

Currently operating military and civil aircraft in 70 countries, T56 has recorded more than 200 million operating hours.

In March, the USAF awarded a contract for performing T56 engine upgrades, known as the model 3.5 upgrade, which improves fuel efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, increases reliability and enhances performance.

The 3.5 upgrade requires no changes to the aircraft or controls.
