Peru's defence imports are expected to increase during 2017-21 as the nation intends to increase its military spending and arms procurements to bolster its army presence in the region, according to a report by Strategic Defence Intelligence (SDI).

Peru imported KAI KT-1 basic trainer aircraft, Type 90B 122mm MLRS system, Mi-171Sh transport helicopters and Mi-35P attack helicopters between 2011 and 2015. It also began remanufacturing and modernisation of five of its Ex-New Zealand SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopters in 2016.

The Peruvian Government also plans to procure multi-role aircraft, submarines, frigates and main battle tanks (MBTs) in the next five years, states the report.
