The Pakistan Government has placed an order for more AgustaWestland AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters.

The undisclosed number of new helicopters will join the existing fleet of AW139, which were ordered earlier to carry out search-and-rescue (SAR) and emergency medical service (EMS) duties in the country, Leonardo stated.

Pakistan will use the newly acquired aircraft for utility and transport operations across the nation.

Deliveries under the latest order will begin later this year.

The latest purchase confirms the AW139 as the preferred new generation helicopter choice for replacement of older types currently in service, according to the company.

The AW139 is fitted with a Honeywell Primus Epic fully integrated avionics system and 4-axis digital AFCS.

It also features single / dual-pilot VFR/IFR low workload NVG-compatible integrated glass cockpit with advanced avionics and systems.

The helicopter's power to weight ratio is said to provide Category A performance capabilities with no limitations in a wide range of operating conditions, including ‘hot and high’.

Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6C-67C engines, the aircraft can accommodate a crew of up to two pilots and 15 passengers.

The AW139 also has engine air particle separators, closed circuit refuelling system, auxiliary fuel tank, full ice protection system, wire strike protection, single/dual rescue hoist with hoist light and monitoring camera, search lights and all weather covers.
