The AEW&C has been designed to provide detailed situational awareness that can be used for border surveillance, search and rescue operations, as well as for tackling terrorism and organised crime.

Work under the contract will be carried out within Saab’s business area Surveillance and business area Support and Services.

In December of last year, the company announced that a support agreement had been signed with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) regarding an airborne surveillance system.

In November 2015, Saab signed a $1.27bn contract with the UAE to deliver a new airborne swing role surveillance system (SRSS) incorporating a new version of the Saab Erieye radar system.

The company confirmed that the UAE placed a $236m order for Saab GlobalEye aircraft in January this year.

Saab’s new GlobalEye AEW&C system has been designed to provide air, maritime and ground surveillance in a single solution.

The system includes a new extended range radar with the ultra-long-range Global 6000 jet aircraft from Bombardier.

It can maximise operational performance in terms of detection capability and mission endurance to ensure territorial integrity and security in today’s complex environments.

The GlobalEye AEW&C has an increased detection range and more than 11 hours of operational endurance.
