US Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson has said that space training will be opened to military members of allied countries, as part of the National Defense Strategy to improve the relationship between them.

As part of the development, two new courses will be added to its National Security Space Institute, in addition to a space situational awareness course.

The courses are expected to help US partners and allies gain knowledge on collision avoidance, de-orbits and re-entries.

“It’s time to build on years of collaboration to deepen our relationships with our allies and partners in space.”

Speaking during a keynote speech at the 34th Space Symposium, Wilson said: “It’s time to build on years of collaboration to deepen our relationships with our allies and partners in space.

“We will strengthen our alliances and attract new partners not just by sharing data from monitoring, but by training and working closely with each other in space operations.”

In addition, an office will be set up by the air force to focus on ways to change acquisition rules, streamline and improve, as well as accelerate the way the service conducts business.

The office will report directly to the US Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition.

Wilson added: “Their job will not be to buy things, but to change the Pentagon rules and processes through which we buy things so that speed is a priority, and an expectation.

“It’s time to stop circumventing the bureaucracy and start rewiring it.”
