Israel’s Elbit Systems has been selected to deliver the International Flight Training Center for the Hellenic (Greek) Air Force.
The contract was awarded following a competitive process after the Government of Greece approved a defence agreement between the defence ministries of the two countries.

As agreed, the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD) and Elbit Systems will establish and operate the Flight Training Center for nearly 20 years. The deal amounts to nearly $1.68bn.
The scope of the deal also includes the delivery of ten M-346 aircraft (Lavi), maintenance of T-6 aircraft, flight simulators and training aids, as well as through-life logistical support.
However, the contract is yet to be signed and is contingent on completion of commercial negotiations with Greece’s Ministry of National Defense.
Elbit Systems president and CEO Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis said: “We are honoured to have been selected to provide such an important capability to the Hellenic Air Force, which we believe will contribute to the further strengthening of the bi-lateral relationship between Israel and Greece.

Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz said: “This agreement reflects the excellent and developing relations we have with Greece.
“It is a long-term partnership that will serve the interests of both Israel and Greece, create hundreds of jobs in both countries, and promote stability in the Mediterranean.”
Last month, Elbit Systems secured a contract to support a programme and help in upgrading the Romanian Air Force’s (RoAF) IAR-99 Standard trainer aircraft.
