Russian Eastern Military District press office has reported that a Sukhoi Su-34 frontline bomber crashed during a training flight.

The incident happened in the Khabarovsk Region in the Russian Far East on 21 October.

The press office was reported by several media sources as saying that the pilots ejected to safety.

The report stated: “The pilots ejected. There is no threat to their health. The crew members have now been evacuated to their home airfield.”

The crash did not cause any damage on the ground as the aircraft was not equipped with an ammunition load for the training flight.

The press office added: “A commission of the Eastern Military District has been sent to the incident site to establish the causes and circumstances of the crash.”

The Su-34 front-line bombers are designed to effectively strike the ground and air enemy targets in all weather conditions.

In 2017, the Russian Aerospace Forces received another batch of Su-34 front-line bombers from Sukhoi.

The aircraft can operate at ranges of 4,000km and at speeds of 1,900km/h. It can also carry a weapon payload maximum of 8t.

Last month, the Ukrainian Air Force’s An-26 transport aircraft crashed in the Kharkiv region and claimed the lives of 26 people on board.

In May, a Croatian air force training aircraft crashed in the south-west of the country and claimed the lives of two members on board.
