UTC Aerospace Systems is set to deliver critical components for Korea Aerospace Industries’ (KAI) KF-X advanced multi-role fighter jet.

Under the terms of the contract signed between the two companies, UTC Aerospace is responsible for providing the aircraft with a complete environmental control system, including air conditioning, bleed air control, as well as cabin pressurisation and liquid cooling.

The company will also deliver air turbine starter and flow control valve for the Republic of Korea Air Force’s KF-X fighter jet.

The key components will allow the environmental control system to be easily installed and maintained, as well as help reduce weight by eliminating the need for ducts and connectivity between distributed components.

The integration of air conditioning and liquid cooling into a single pack will also reduce the amount of space required by the system on the aircraft.

KAI intends to develop more than 100 KF-X fighter jets for the Korean Air Force.

Deliveries of the aircraft are expected to begin in the mid-2020s.

UTC Aerospace Systems currently provides a complete environmental control system, air turbine starter and airframe mounted accessory drive for KAI’s T-50 trainer, in addition to several other systems for the TA-50 and FA-50 light attack aircraft.
