Thales has been contracted by Airbus to supply additional A400M full-flight simulators (FFS) for the French and German airforces.

The two new simulators will be used to train A400M crews in complex missions such as in-flight refuelling and low-level tactical operations in a safe environment.

Commenting on the deal, Thales UK Avionics activities vice-president Stephen McCann said: “Thales is proud to have received such long-standing commitment from Airbus and we will continue to provide high-quality simulators to enable flight crew to train for their missions.

“Thales is committed to supporting the Airbus A400M platform through its development cycle with Airbus.”

The new military training simulators will be delivered to France and Germany in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Thales has already delivered five orders for A400M FFS and two flat panel flight training devices to France, Germany, the UK and the International Training Center in Sevilla, Spain, with plans to deliver a sixth FFS to Spain in 2018.

A400M Training Services (ATSL), a joint venture company formed by Thales and Airbus, is responsible for managing the training, support services and maintenance at the British Royal Air Force at Brize Norton training school in Oxfordshire, UK.

Thales said it is the only provider of A400M flight simulators through Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’ARmement (OCCAR).

It is also an Airbus industrial partner for support operations at the Airbus A400M training centre at the French Air Force’s Orléans-Bricy 123 base.
