Spain will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the IRIS-T missile programme to equip its air force with new-generation air-to-air missiles.

Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Greece are the other members of this €247.3bn ($346.3bn) missile programme, defense-aerospace.com reports.

The MoU implies that Spain will purchase 700 operational missiles, 70 training missiles, ten sets of test equipment and 385 containers.

The programme further includes Spain’s entrance to access technology, its contribution to establishing a production line and funding for integrating the missile to EF18 Hornet combat aircraft.

The total amount is to be distributed over the ten years of the programme lifespan.
