Three B-52 Stratofortress bombers have been deployed at the US Anderson Air Force Base in Guam along with about 300 airmen on a rotational deployment to maintain stability and security in the Western Pacific.
The 96th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron has been sent on this mission as a part of the continuous bomber presence (CBP) that began in 2004.

The shared deployment with B-1 Lancers and B-2 Spirits enables the units to train in the pacific theatre.
The mission will afford opportunities such as training in vast air space with F-22 Raptors to prepare for real-world missions, training exercises for long-range precision strike on a continual basis and training with simulation weapons.
The deployment location will be effectively used to include sorties for training over water and air refuelling training. Sorties will also include flying maritime interdiction, mining sorties and long-duration sorties.
The squadron will also be able to integrate with and employ other weapon systems, services and countries as a part of the four-month deployment.
