The US Air Force Research Laboratory has awarded a $49m follow-on contract to Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) for the environmental and energy quality technologies research programme.

Under the contract, CTC will undertake the transition to emerging materials, processes and new technologies to reduce and remove toxic and hazardous chemicals, materials and waste streams.

The US Air Force will be able to improve its energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the programme.

Specific technology areas such as alternative energy and alternative fuels, reduction and elimination of hazardous materials, environmental and lifecycle assessments, and industrial base process improvements will be assessed and validated under the contract.

The first $5.1m task order will comprise an advanced laser coatings removal development project.
