The air force has been using the ITT-built PARs to ensure safe landings of aircraft in all conditions, specifically where visibility is impaired in night and severe weather conditions.

The radar system successfully tracked and landed the test aircraft in severe weather conditions during the SAT.

The flight certification was conducted by a Brazilian special flight inspection group, Grupo Especial de Inspeção em Vôo.

The radars were purchased by the air force in 1997 and the present upgrade is expected to be completed in 2013.
