The US Air Force has awarded a contract to Boeing to support the C/KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft programme.
Under the $150m deal, Boeing will provide programmed depot maintenance, unprogrammed depot-level maintenance and modifications installations on the C/KC-135 series aircraft.
The tanker aircraft is primarily used to refuel aircraft in flight. Modified KC-135s also serve as flying command posts, pure transport, electronic reconnaissance and photo mapping craft.
The KC-135 features include a flying boom to provide fuel transfer, a drogue to refuel probe-equipped aircraft fitted to the boom and passenger and cargo deck located above the fuselage-mounted tanks.
The Tinker Air Force Base will manage the contracting activity.
