Hawker Beechcraft and Lockheed Martin have teamed up to pursue the US Air Force’s light attack and armed reconnaissance (LAAR) aircraft deal.
The two companies will join forces to offer the AT-6 LAAR aircraft, which will incorporate training and close air support capabilities for manned intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and light precision attack missions.

The team intends to offer Beechcraft’s AT-6 aircraft platform for the competition, for which HBC will be the prime contractor and Lockheed the mission systems integrator.
Hawker Beechcraft chairman and CEO Bill Boisture said that by teaming with Lockheed Martin, HBC will deliver an AT-6 LAAR aircraft that meets the training and light attack capabilities the air force needs in one flexible platform.
Recently, production for the second AT-6 prototype has begun that will advance the performance and expand mission capabilities of the first AT-6 prototype currently undergoing in flight testing.
The acquisition programme for the aircraft is expected to be launched in 2010.
