SMC, a key component of the Air Force Space Command, is the centre for research, development and purchase of military space systems and is responsible for on-orbit, check-out testing, sustainment and maintenance of military satellite constellations and other defence space systems.

The IRRT performs risk assessment of space launch missions and reports findings in pre-launch reviews.

Under the contract, SAIC will help SMC’s IRRT assess space system readiness and reduce risks associated with software, avionics, propulsion or ordnance and structural mechanical areas.
