The Qatar Emiri Air Force has received the first AW139 medium twin helicopter from AgustaWestland under an August 2008 contract.

The AW139 will perform military utility missions, troop transport, search and rescue, border patrol, special forces operations, law enforcement and homeland security for different government agencies.

The helicopter has a maximum cruise speed of 165 knots and a maximum range of over 570nm and can perform at outstanding one engine inoperative capabilities, even in harsh weather conditions.

The configurable eight cubic metre cabin of the aircraft will carry eight to 15 troops and large sliding cabin doors enable easy and quick loading and unloading of troops and equipment, making it ideal for military and public security applications.

The chopper is the first in a series of helicopters ordered by the air force.
