The US Air Force has received the first KIV-77 Mode 4/5 crypto applique computers, as part of a five-year indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity agreement signed with Raytheon.

The computers will support the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) equipment of the air force.

It will provide aircraft with the latest technology to enhance air, land and surface combat-identification capability.

The KIV-77 is Type 1 certified by the National Security Agency and will provide information assurance for both legacy Mode 4 and new Mode 5 IFF equipment.

The Mode 5 IFF is the next-generation encrypted data link between interrogators and transponders used to confirm an aircraft is friendly.

The IFF is a cryptographic identification system designed for command and control.
