The US Air Force (USAF) has received the 1,000th joint air-to-surface stand-off missile (JASSM) from Lockheed Martin, as part of the seventh production lot.

The JASSM is a 2,000lb class weapon with a penetrator and blast fragmentation warhead, featuring a stealthy airframe developed for the USAF.

It can cruise autonomously in adverse weather, day or night using an infrared sensors, and can find a specific aimpoint with its anti-jam GPS.

The missile system, which has been successfully demonstrated on the B-1, B-2, B-52 and F-16 aircraft, will be integrated with future platforms including the F-15E, F/A-18 and F-35.

The USAF has awarded the JASSM eighth production lot contract to Lockheed to reach a total objective of 4,900 JASSMs and JASSM-ERs (extended range).
