The Pakistani Air Force (PAF) has received the second of four airborne early warning and control (AWAC) surveillance systems from Sweden.

The PAF will soon induct the Saab-2000 aircraft in its fleet to enhance the air force’s capability to monitor Indian airspace, according to brahmand.com.

Mounted on the turboprop aircraft, the Erieye radar system will enable the PAF to detect all aircraft taking off and landing at Indian airbases near Pakistan.

The system will also identify the type of aircraft, its weapons systems and its direction of flight.

The AWAC with its enhanced capabilities and range, will enable the PAF to receive early warning in case of pre-emptive attacks from across the border.
