Lackland has been chosen for its proximity to cyber-related commands such as the National Security Agency’s Texas Cryptologic Center and the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency.

It is also close to the 67th Network Warfare Wing, the Joint Information Operations Warfare Command and the Air Force Cryptologic Support Group.

The 68th NWS commander Col. Bradford Shwedo said the building will be the first of its kind in the nation, as well as the first step in cyber warfare.

Scheduled to be completed this year, the new building will serve as an office space for 400 defence personnel.
