The UK’s new government has decided to suspend a search and rescue helicopter (SAR-H) programme to replace the country’s Sea King helicopters, which would have cost around £4.6bn ($6bn).

The SAR-H programme was geared to meet search and rescue operation needs of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Navy, according to shephard.co.uk.

The joint programme between the Department for Transport (DfT) and Ministry of Defence (MoD) aimed to introduce a new harmonised fleet of aircraft that would have operated under the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

The decision was taken following a review into the spending decisions of the previous administration.
