The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has, for the first time, participated in a joint air exercise with the French and Indian Air Forces in France.

The Garuda 2010 is a 12-day exercise that began on 14 June 2010 at the Orange and Istres Air Bases in France.

To participate in the exercise, the RSAF carried out a long-range deployment, covering 11,500km from Singapore to France, according to Malaysian national news agency BERNAMA.

The air force has deployed approximately 180 personnel, six F-16D+ fighter jets and one KC-135R refuelling tanker in the exercise.

During the exercise, RSAF crew will carry out air combat, air defence and air-to-air refuelling missions.

The FAF have contributed Mirage-2000, Rafale fighters and C-135R transport aircraft, and the IAF has sent Sukhoi-30 fighters, Ilyushin IL-78 tanker aircraft and Ilyushin IL-76 transport aircraft.
