USAF Academy Lt Col David Latham said the UAS was perfect for training at the academy because of its high-performance capacity at higher altitudes and extreme temperatures.

Insitu will instruct on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, aerodynamics, mission planning, emergency procedures, visual observer duties and techniques, and airmanship concepts.

The training will be distributed in three courses – basic, advanced and instructor preparation.

In June 2010, 90 cadets participated in the eight-day basic course to get an overview and watch a demonstration of ScanEagle in flight.

In April 2010, the instructor prepcourse was conducted, where 24 upper-level cadets received instruction to help train lower-level cadets. The advanced session will be offered later in the year.

BOSH will provide rest of the training, which will involve in-class and actual flight operations with ScanEagle in six 40-minute training periods.
