General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) is looking for collaboration with companies across Japan to assist in the establishment of its remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) capability in the country.

In order to deliver the ‘best available’ RPA technology, the company is seeking to form alliances with defence industry suppliers and associated businesses in Japan.

Relationships with Japanese partners are expected to help the company with services and capabilities such as long-term data storage and machine learning, fixed-base operation services, including airfield facilities, and ground support equipment.

In addition, the partnerships will provide support services for command and control systems integration, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), as well as engineering, modelling and simulation capabilities.

The company is also seeking Japanese partners for continued data analysis from a series of flight demonstrations of its Guardian RPA, which was carried out near Iki Island from 10-23 May.

“This includes work related to the scientific research from the flight demonstrations we conducted earlier this year, as well as support in the areas of IT, infrastructure, engineering, manufacturing, modelling and simulation.”

Data collected from the Guardian RPA flight demonstrations are expected to support research in changes in ocean temperature and maritime domain awareness.

The Guardian RPA is fitted with long-range maritime surface-search radar and cameras for stabilised optical and infrared video.
