Lockheed Martin and the US Air Force have jointly transitioned the Milstar satellite constellation ground control system to the new advanced extremely high-frequency (AEHF) mission control segment (MCS).

The AEHF system will provide significantly improved global, highly secure, protected, survivable communications for all warfighters in service with US national security.

The AEHF MCS will perform day-to-day operations of the Milstar satellite constellation, and will support the first launch of the AEHF satellite constellation, scheduled for August 2010.

Lockheed led the planning and testing of the transition and has provided critical technical support throughout the transition execution and subsequent weeks of operation.

It will consolidate Milstar and AEHF satellite control and communication resource planning into a single, modernised mission control segment.

The AEHF MCS will provide enhanced capabilities through a distributed architecture to provide flexibility to deployed warfighters for directly planning and controlling satellite payload resources.
