The C-5M Super Galaxy has been developed as part of the avionics modernisation programme (AMP) and the reliability enhancement and re-engining programme (RERP).

The C-5M Super Galaxy recently achieved a 96% departure reliability rate while delivering critical cargo to troops in Afghanistan.

It was also used to carry the 7.5t Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer to be launched on the last space shuttle flight in 2011.
