The Indian Air Force will begin operation of its network-centric warfare capability, Air Force Net (AFNET) on 14 September 2010.

AFNET is a fibre optic-based network on which the integrated air command and control system (IACCS) of the IAF would ride, according to the Press Trust of India.

The IAF will use AFNET to rapidly link all its ground, air and space assets to have complete situational awareness of the area that it wants to secure and dominate.

IACCS will provide connectivity for all airborne platforms and ground platforms and enable real-time transfer of voice, data and images among aircraft, satellites and ground bases.

It will provide a real-time sensor-to-shooter loop, which will enable IAF commanders to make instant decisions to order the weapons to be deployed.
