Nato’s 7th Baltic region training event (BRTE VII) has begun in the skies of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia at Ramstein Air Force Base.
The exercise involves four US Air Force F-15C Eagle fighters, based at Lithuania’s air base Zokniai and two Hercules C-130J turboprop transport aircraft.

The exercise will also involve participation of the airborne warning and control system (AWACS) based on a Boeing 707 airframe.
During the training, the deployed aircraft will maintain radio connection with airspace control and command units in Uedem, Germany, the joint command and reporting centre in Karmelava Lithuania, and F-15C Eagle fighters deployed from Siauliai Airbase on the Baltic Air-policing mission.
The Hercules C-130 will simulate a situation of lost radio connection with civilian air traffic control systems during the mission.
The event is part of Nato’s air policing drills, which aims to improve air interoperability and develop Nato air forces’ capabilities in defending the air space over the Baltic states.
