Cubic Defense Applications has received a $35m contract to develop its common range integrated instrumentation system (CRIIS) for US military test ranges.

The CRIIS programme aims to fulfil a critical Department of Defense (DoD) requirement to provide time, space and position information (TSPI), and system test data to support weapon system testing.

The CRIIS system will be used for a variety of platforms, including advanced aircraft, ships, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, ground vehicles and dismounted soldiers.

The US Air Force has awarded Rockwell Collins a $140m contract to develop the first phase of CRIIS.

The CRIIS will be operational at eight test ranges including Edwards Air Force Base (AFB), Eglin AFB, Nellis AFB, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Naval Air Station Point Mugu, NAS Patuxent River, White Sands Missile Range and Yuma Test Center.
