The UAE Air Force and the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) have held joint training exercises over the past two weeks to showcase the ability to co-operate with each other and maritime forces at the Al Dhafra Air Base, UAE.

In the exercise, called Operation Air Khanjar, Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon jet fighters and surveillance aircraft performed alongside Emirati F-16s and Mirages.

The two air forces set up combat situations for teams of different fighters.

The training involved flight manoeuvres and joint exercises with the British HMS Cumberland and also included dogfights, before the aircraft returned to base for debriefings on how the pilots could better handle these combat scenarios, reports The National.

The exercise forms part of the Defence Co-operation Accord signed in 1996.
