Boeing has decided to withdraw from the midair tanker tender announced by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in September 2010.

Boeing vice-president for defence, space and security in India Dr Vivek Lall said the company has withdrawn as the last date for complying with the tender bid was 12 January.

Lall said the company would further decide on this deal after the result of the KC-X competition for replacement of US Air Force refuelling tankers is published.

Lall said Boeing will take part in the competition if the USAF accepts the 767 tanker and the IAF extends the date for the competition, according to the Economic Times.

With the withdrawal of Boeing, only the Airbus A330 MRTT and Russian IL 78 are left in the competition to supply six midair refuellers to the IAF.

Under the request for proposal announced by India, the IAF tankers will be equipped with Israeli probes.
