European consortium EADS has offered the Indian Air Force (IAF) a high-tech helmet that helps fighter pilots operate aircraft through a seemingly fictional vision-and-voice command.

With the help of the helmet, pilots can view enemy planes by turning their heads and picking targets for the aircraft to shoot down. The helmet also lets the pilot “see” through the body of the enemy aircraft.

The helmet is part of optional purchases India could make if it chooses to go with the Eurofighter Typhoon plane in the medium multirole combat aircraft (MMRCA) tender, the Economic Times reports, quoting an official of Cassidian, EADS’s defence arm.

“We have given this option to the Indian Air Force (IAF) if it decides in favour of our aircraft,” the official added.

Designed and developed by BAE Systems, the helmet has been offered under the $10.4bn combat plane tender.
