The Canadian Air Force will receive two Ground Master 400 (GM 400) long-range air defence radars from ThalesRaytheonSystems as part of a command and control air defence system contract awarded to Thales Canada.

The GM 400 offers detection from very high to very low altitudes, and tracks a wide range of targets, from highly manoeuvrable tactical aircraft flying at very low altitudes to the unconventional small radar cross-section devices such as unmanned aerial vehicles or cruise missiles.

The versatile and easily deployable, GM 400 also provides tactical control of fighter aircraft.

The radars will provide the Canadian Air Force with air defence protection of key assets as part of homeland security and protection of deployed troops.

The delivery of the radars is slated for 2011.
