AgustaWestland has signed a contract with the Qatari armed forces to provide three AW139 medium twin helicopters and a logistics support package.

The AW139 aircraft will be operated by the Qatar Emiri Air Force to carry out emergency medical services, and search and rescue missions.

The new-generation helicopter boasts an advanced integrated cockpit and a maximum cruise speed of 165kt, and minimises pilot workload, allowing the crew to better achieve mission objectives.

The aircraft can perform a range of operations including utility, troop transport, search and rescue, border patrol, special forces operations, law enforcement and homeland security.

The latest contract brings the number of AW139s to a total of 18, with deliveries expected by early 2012.
