The US Air Force (USAF) has increased its dependence on renewable energy sources by unveiling two new wind turbines to help meet electric needs to perform missions in support of national security.

The two 1.5MW wind turbines, along with an existing turbine, will balance the emissions generated by fossil-fuelled power plants, reduce the air force’s carbon footprint, and offset electrical costs for powering numerous groundwater clean-up systems at the reservation.

According to US Environmental Protection Agency reports, USAF is the third-largest purchaser of green power in the federal government.

The air force is currently operating 85 on-base renewable energy projects at 43 installations to establish greater energy security through conservation and alternative energy use.
