The US Air Force (USAF) has taken delivery of a new 30,000lb bomb from Boeing, Air Force spokesman lieutenant colonel Jack Miller confirmed.

The new 20.5ft-long bunker-buster bomb, also known as the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, carries more than 5,300lb of explosives and has been designed for integration into the B-2 stealth bomber.

The bomb is guided by GPS satellites and is expected to provide the war-fighter with increased capability to strike hard and deeply buried targets such as nuclear, biological or chemical sites.

Boeing was recently awarded a contract for the delivery of eight of the munitions.
