The state contract was signed by the Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and Sukhoi general director Igor Ozar.
The contract is part of the State Arms programme for 2011-2020 and is expected to have a total potential value of $3.3bn.
The arms programme aims to replace the existing Su-24 frontline bomber fleet currently in service with the air force.
The Su-34 is a 4+ generation aircraft in terms of operational capabilities and can engage land-based, sea and airborne targets in all weather conditions and any visibility levels using a range of airborne munitions, including high-precision types.

By GlobalDataThe twin-seat fighter bomber features long-range aiming systems and a modern on-board communication and information exchange system linked to ground control stations, ground troops, surface ships and aircraft.
Additional features include an advanced radar countermeasures and defence system, a complex survival system, an armoured cockpit and an active safety system, along with new computers to manoeuvre and perform precise bombing when under enemy attack.
The multi-channel aircraft is equipped with a digital control system, an in-flight refuelling device and add-on fuel tanks that allow it to fly long distances as well as perform missions at low altitude.
Work under the contract will be carried out at the company’s Novosibirsk plant in southern Siberia.
The company has already delivered ten fighter-bombers, under a five-year contract signed in 2008 to supply the Russian Defence Ministry with 32 Su-34 aircraft.
