Sonalysts has completed installation of Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) simulation software to help expand capabilities of the US Air Force’s (USAF) Standard Space Trainer (SST) system.

The SST Integrated Training Centers at the 533rd Training Squadron of Vandenberg Air Force Base (AFB) and the 50th Space Wing of Schriever AFB have been installed with the Release 1.0 software to improve support for crew and operator training in ground operations and vehicle support for the WGS satellites.

The installation work was conducted under a $20m Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III contract awarded to Sonalysts by the air force and Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC).

In addition to Release 1.0 integration, the company also performed upgrades to the SST Architecture and the defence satellite communications system (DSCS) mission-specific vendor plug-in (MSVP), which is already present in the SST training labs.

With the newly performed upgrades, the 533rd and 50th centres have become the first sites within a single training lab to host two different satellite systems MSVPs from the SST Architecture.

The SST upgrades enable instructors to coordinate training sessions between different MSVPs for the first time.

A software development kit package is also present in the SST Architecture to enable production of new training systems that will be deployed from the same SST Architecture.

Sonalysts is scheduled to install WGS Release 2.0 version at the 533rd and 50th SST labs in late 2012, marking a significant milestone in satellite operator training programme.
