Boeing signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korean Air Aerospace Division (KAL-ASD) earlier this month to further expand their cooperation in the Republic of Korea (ROK) and global military aircraft market.
As part of the newly signed MoU, the companies plan to cooperate on a wide range of helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other military aircraft maintenance and support services.

Boeing Defense, Space & Security International Business Development vice president Mark Kronenberg said: "We see potential for new collaboration by bringing together KAL’s leading-edge capabilities and Boeing’s history of innovation to address expanding global defense and security requirements."
Korean Air Aerospace Division head and senior vice president June Chul Choi said the MoU with Boeing demonstrates the company’s goal to become the biggest aerospace company in Asia.
"This win-win collaboration will help Korean Air play a leading role in aerospace development, modification and upgrade programmes and open doors to expanded defense business opportunities globally," Choi added.
KAL-ASD is currently providing spare and associated parts handling services to Boeing for the Republic of Korea Air Force’s (ROKAF) fleet of Peace Eye E737 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, and is also a supplier for its commercial planes, such as the 787 Dreamliner and 747-8 jet airliner.

By GlobalDataA total of four Peace Eye aircraft, along with ground support segments for mission crew training, support and system maintenance, were ordered by the ROKAF from Boeing under a $1.6bn deal in November 2006.
The air force has already received three aircraft, while the last and final AEW&C is scheduled for delivery in late 2012.
Meanwhile, the company is also proposing its F-15 Silent Eagle aircraft for the country’s multibillion F-X III fighter programme contract.
