Eurofighter chief executive officer Alberto Gutierrez said the delivery of the 400th Typhoon aircraft marks a historic milestone in Europe’s largest defence programme.

”Now we must focus much more strongly on export campaigns in order to win new contracts and new customers for this outstanding aircraft,” Gutierrez said.

Nato Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) general manager Jesus Pinillos said the aircraft has proven itself as a reliable backbone of the air forces in Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia and the UK.

Pinillos said, ”The reliability of the Eurofighter Typhoon in its global missions has surpassed expectations.

"The aircraft represents the overall 400th Typhoon to have been delivered to date by the company to the programme’s worldwide customer base."

"Eurofighter Typhoon secures the airspace of six nations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, even under extreme arctic weather conditions on the Falkland Islands.”

Typhoon is a twin-engine, canard-delta wing, multirole fighter manufactured by a consortium of EADS, Alenia Aeronautica and BAE Systems, for deployment during air operations, including air policing, peace support and high-intensity conflict missions worldwide.

The aircraft has undergone several enhancements, including the Phase 1 Enhancement (PIE), integration of the METEOR air-to-air missile, E-Scan and additional weaponry, which are expected to increase its capabilities and secure its future in the next decades.

Currently, the Typhoon fleet comprises 20 operating units, including seven in the UK, five in Italy, three in Germany, three in Spain and one each in Austria and Saudi Arabia.
